John Fitzgerald Kennedy initiated his presidential campaign on January 2, 1960. It was during the Democratic primary election. He faced challenges from Senator Wayne Morse and Senator Hubert Humphrey. Eventually, he defeated them and the opposition. He was a believer in containing communism. When he became the President, he made it vivid that he would continue with Eisenhower's policy, and would work with the South Vietnamese government.
JKF showed his support for the ''Domino Theory.'' He believed that if South Vietnam joined communism, all the other countries in that region would too. He was not prepared to contemplate. There are those that offered him advice with regards to Vietnam. Charles De Gaulle warned JKF that getting involved with Vietnam would trap America in a political swamp.
However, ''hawks'' in Washington told JKF that the American forces would be prepared and equipped for a conflict in Vietnam. They supported the ''Domino Theory'' strongly. During his presidency, there was the introduction of the ''Strategic Hamlet'' program. It failed and made South Vietnamese peasants joined the North Vietnamese communists (Reeves, 1993).
JKF's program in Vietnam destroyed years of village life in the country. The U.S. was orchestrating the removal of peasants using the South Vietnamese Army without their consent. Many opposed the move. However, it provided them with a propaganda opportunity (Nelson, 2009).
Testimonial.
Thank you for the ''JKF in Vietnam'' essay. The Native American writer had an understanding of the topic. It took him less than 24 hours to deliver the order. I received my work days before the due date. Bravo! Bakhita, Yale University.
