Farts Essay

Benjamin Franklin was America's founding father. Aside from politics, he also loved writing. He became a successful editor and printer in the state of Philadelphia, which was a leading colony. He published the ''Pennsylvania Chronicles'' together with two partners. People knew the newspaper for its revolutionary criticisms and sentiments of the British policies. He gained wealth from the publication of ''The Pennsylvania Gazette'' and ''Poor Richard's Almanack.''

''Farts'' is a notorious essay that he wrote about flatulence in 1781. At the time, he was the United States Ambassador to France. The title was ''A Letter To A Royal Academy.'' He also called it ''To The Royal Academy of Farting.'' He composed it in response to the Royal Academy of Brussels' call for scientific papers. He believed that the numerous European academic societies were pretentious, and their concern was impractical.

In the ''farts'', he revealed his bawdy side. He claimed that the research and practical reasoning had to be present for there to be an improvement in the odor of the human flatulence. He never submitted the essay. He sent it to a Welsh philosopher and Unitarian, Richard Price. He had an ongoing correspondence with Franklin (Brands, 2002).

''Farts'' discusses the different odors of various foods and their effect on the flatulence. He also suggested that scientists should develop a drug, which someone can mix with meals or sauces (Becker, 1931).

Testimonial.
