The Victorian era is part of the British history. It marks the period of Queen Victoria's reign, which was from June, 20 1837, to January 22, 1901. Peace, prosperity, national self-confidence, and refined sensibilities filled the years. Historians date the age with the political concerns of the passage of the Reform Act 1832.
The education Victorian style excelled in the fields of literature and social history. Today, Victorianism refers to the study of the culture and attitudes of the late-Victorian period. The scholars focus on the highly moralistic, behavior, and the straitlaced language of the Victorian morality. During the era, there was the improvement of schools (Thomas et al. 1974).
The education in Victorian style ensured that all children went through schooling despite their background. In 1870, there was a law that made it mandatory for all between 5-10 attend the learning institutions in Britain. The leaving age was lower than what we have today. In 1893, the government increased it to 11 years.
When Queen Victoria started her reign, education was for the well-to-do. Many children did not go to school. Hence, they struggled with writing and reading. The affluent taught their kids at home until they were ten years old. The boys proceeded to institutions such as Rugby while the girls stayed at home. The rest got exposure thanks to ''Sunday School,'' a concept by Robert Raikes (Walton, 1983).
