Causes of the Revolution Essay

There are various causes of the American Revolution. However, in a nutshell, the 13 colonies felt that the British Empire was making a lot of money from them. They had the power to do that because they could enact laws, which they applied like a ''one-way-street.'' In return, the Acts affected the life and trade in the 13 colonies. The British ensured that the Americans did not have representatives in Parliament.

The protest let the 13 colonies down to the road to Revolution. It later resulted in the American Revolutionary War. In 1765, the American Society rejected the power of the British Parliament. The latter had been taxing them, yet the had no representation. The protest led to the formation of the Patriots who became vocal. In 1773, there was the Boston Tea Party where they destroyed a consignment of tea (Middlekauff, 2005).

Another cause of the Revolution was that the British responded to the violence by imposing punitive acts. The Coercive Acts in 1774 would ensure that they paid for the tea. The Patriots in the other colonies supported Massachusetts in the protest. They also set up an alternative government. It would aid the coordination of their resistance against Great Britain.

The Patriots felt that King George III's rule was tyrannical. It also infringed their ''rights as Englishmen.'' It was also a cause of the Revolution (Kidd, 2010).
