Mrs. Dalloway is a novel by Virginia Woolf. It looks at a day in Clarissa Dalloway's life. She is a high-society lady in post-First World War England. She created it from two short stories; ''The Prime Minister'' and ''Mrs. Dolloway in Bond Street''. It is one of Woolf's best-known books (Kennard, 1996).
Mrs. Dolloway address Clarissa's prior preparations for a party she plans to host later in the evening. The story has an interior perspective, it travels back and forward in time in the characters' minds. Hence, it constructs an image of the protagonist's life and the social structure, especially during the inter-war period. Time magazine included the novel in their list of ''100 best English-language novels since 1923).
Clarissa is getting ready to host a party. The day reminds her of her youth, which she spent in the countryside. It also makes her wonder about her selection of a husband. She had married Richard Dalloway, who was reliable instead of Peter Walsh who was demanding. However, there was Sally Seton, who she did not have the option to consider. She faces these conflicts when Peter Visits in the morning (Woolf, 2009).
All the action in Mrs. Dolloway apart from the flashbacks happens on a day in June. The storytelling is a stream of consciousness. The author uses every scene to track the thoughts of a particular character. She also distinguishes direct from indirect speech.
