There are records of gay marriages in the history of many cultures. However, formal same-sex unions were rare in other communities. In the 20th century, it was increasingly common although it lacked the legal recognition. Netherlands was the first country to enact a law that favors homosexuals in 2001. Other nations have followed suit.
Gay marriage is an oxymoron because the base of the rite of passage is differences rather than sameness. Two people become one due to the unlikeness. Therefore, they attract and develop the potential to create new life. The Marriage Act Supports the above everywhere. Margaret Thatcher believed there was no society, only the individuals. However, despite the personal choice, there is the community to consider.
Gay marriage becomes an oxymoron because the act goes beyond the two partners to their offspring. They should aim to take care and contribute to their family, which is part of the society. A community encourages responsible relationships because of the well-being of the children. It is unitive, and the two must be procreative (Truluck, 2000).
Gender is significant in a marriage. While the LGBT society tries to make changes in the understanding of the union, they cannot move away from the fact that women and men serve different roles. You can never equate something that has essential differences. It will remain to be an oxymoron(Wolfson, 2004).
