The Making a Bomb Decision Essay

U.S. President Truman called for Japan's surrender and 16 hours later America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. He had warned the country to expect a ruin of air. He had predicted that no one on earth had seen something like that. That was on August 6th. On August 9th, Nagasaki was under attack. Within the first four months, the bombings had killed about 130,000 people in Hiroshima and 70,000 in Nagasaki.

The decision to make the bomb was effective because Japan announced its surrender to the Allies six days later. It signed ''the instrument of surrender,'' which ended the Second World War. The role of the bombings and their ethical justification remains a debate topic. They were the only nuclear weapons during the warfare history.

The deaths were from burns, radiation sickness, among other causes. The making a bomb decision also saw illness and malnutrition compound others. Many of the victims were civilians. However, Hiroshima also lost military garrison. At least 129,000 people died as a result of the two bombings. It was during the last stage of World War II (Kanabun, 2012).

After the making of the bomb, the next step was to select the location. The Target Committee had to come up with the appropriate sites. The criteria were: the target was to be an urban center, where the blast would create enough damage, and unlikely to have attacks by August 1945 (Hogan, 1996).
