When Abraham Lincoln was 23, he together with his partner bought a general store in 1832. It was in New Salem, Illinois. The economy was thriving in the region. However, the business struggled, which led to the eventual sale of Lincoln's share. In March the same year, he began his political career. It was through his campaign for the Illinois General Assembly.
