During the Second World War, there was the forced relocation of the Japanese-Americans who lived in the United States. They were between 110,000 and 120,000 people, who were of Japanese ancestry they inhabited the Pacific Coast in the country's interior. 62% of them were United States citizens. The government ordered the incarceration of the Japanese-Americans in 1942. It was after the attack on Pearl Harbor by Imperial Japan.

The incarceration of the Japanese-Americans was unequal because of the different concentrations of the population and also the state and regional politics. The government forced more than 110,000 of them out of the West Coast, into the interior camps. However, in Hawaii where there were more than 150,000, they only interned about 1,200-1,800. The determining factor of the forced relocation was racism and discrimination from the white people in the areas (Sandler, 2007).

The Japanese-Americans posed no military danger to warrant their incarceration. On February 19, 1942, President Roosevelt authorized their deportation. He issued the Executive Order 9066, which allowed the military commanders to designate the areas that excluded all the people. The power also stated that all the individuals of Japanese ancestry were not part of the West Coast. The regions included California, Washington, Oregon, and Arizona.

There were about 5,000 Japanese-Americans who avoided the incarceration by relocating voluntarily outside the exclusion zone. The government arrested some 5,500 community leaders after the Pearl Harbor (Shrayer, 2007).
