Global is a Canadian broadcast television network. It belongs to Shaw Media, which is a division of Shaw Communication, currently, it has the second-highest number of viewers in Canada. It comes after CTV. It has 12 owned-and-operated stations in the country. The origin is a regional station, which had the same name. It served Southern Ontario after its launch in 1974. It later purchased CanWest Global Communications, which is now defunct. It expanded its national reach as CanWest Global System. In 1997, it adopted the Ontario brand (King, 1984).
Global has its origins in NTV. Ken Soble, who was the proprietor of Hamilton media, proposed the network in 1966. He was the owner of CHCH-TV, which was an independent station. He operated the Niagara Television Company. Power Corporation of Canada backed his submission, to the Board of Broadcast Governors in 1966. He wanted a national satellite-fed system. He hoped to relay the CHCH programming to 96 new transmitters across Canada.
However, he died before he could realize the dream. His wife took over Niagara Television. Together with others, they handled the application for the network. Many criticized the Global proposal. They claimed that it was above the limits of the board, in terms of the concentration of media ownership. Others found it over ambitious and the finances could not sustain it. Also, it did not include plans for local news content (King, 1984).

Thank you for the ''Global'' essay. The Native Canadian writer was the best. He was aware of the subject. Bravo, Guys. Ocean, Harvard University.
