Bill Cosby was born William Henry Cosby, Jr., on July 12, 1937. He is a stand-up comedian, author, actor, and activist. He began his career in San Francisco. He was performing at the ''hungry i''. In the 1960s, he landed a starring role in the I Spy television show. He was also a regular on the series The Electric Company, which was a children program. He used the Fat Albert character to create, produce, and host the animated comedy Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.
The Bill Cosby production ran from 1972-1985. It centered on some young friends who were growing up in an urban area. Also in the 1970s, he starred in multiple films. He received his bachelor's degree from Temple University in 1971. In 1973, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst awarded him his Masters. In 1976, he earned his Doctorate of Education, from the same institution (Smith, 2007).
For his dissertation, he looked at the use of his show as a teaching tool, especially in elementary school. Starting in the 80s, Bill Cosby produced and starred in The Cosby Show, a television sitcom. It aired from 1894-1992. For five years, it was the best show in America. It discussed the experiences of growing up in an affluent African-American family. It had the spin-off, A Different World from 1987-1993.
He also hosted Kids Say the Darnedest Things, from 1998-2000. Aside from his comedy career, Cosby has been facing sexual assault allegations since the 2000s (Brooks, 2007).
