During the American colonial period, there was the North and South territories. The two were different. The northern side required the services that those in their isolation denied them. They needed some professionals including doctors, carpenters, surgeons, and blacksmiths. Although they could survive without the manufactured goods that were available, they dreamed of owning them. They wished they could get luxury items such as perfume, silk, spices, and cloth. Hence, they had to threaten the Spanish sovereignty in the Americas.
Colonial life in the North and in the South, depended on who settled there. The latter exported tobacco. Many of the colonists had credit with England, which enabled them to import as much as they wanted. In the North, the settlers produced what they needed. They lacked the finances to get things from England. They learned how to supply their needs. They saved grease to use it for making soap and lighting (Pole, 1962).
During the colonial life in the North, they could make clothing. They had also learned how to replace iron through the use of wood. They could also weave, fit, cut, and sew the garments. However, in the South they imported what they wore from England. Some of them feared catching the bubonic plague. Therefore, they were not for the idea. In the New England regions, the church was the center of everything. The elders of the religious institutions were also in control of the political scene (Doyle, 1907).
