Mississippi states has a lot of tourist destinations. The first on is the Vicksburg National Military Park. During the Civil War, it was a thorn in the flesh of the Union forces. Later, the Confederates used the area to control shipping on the river. There were attempts to make it a town, which proved to be unsuccessful. Later, General Grant led the Union troops to capture it after a 47-day siege. It was in 1863. The fall became one of the Confederates' bitterest defeats. The Military Park and Cemetery commemorates the events (Bond, 2005).
The other Mississippi tourist attraction site is the Gulf Islands National Seashore. It extends from Cat Island in the state, to Santa Rosa's eastern tip in Florida. Most of it is submerged. However, the barrier islands offer coastal marshes, white sand beaches, and dense maritime forests. People can also access Davis Bayou, which is at the mainland at the Ocean Springs. The location also has camping and picnicking areas, hiking trails, old forts, and other recreational opportunities (Bond, 2005).
A lot of tourists are attracted to the Old Capitol Museum, in the state of Mississippi. The building dates back to the late 1830s. It was the state house until the early 1900s. However, today it functions as a museum on justice and government. It is free to the public. Many find it interesting due to its displays, history, and architecture. The town of Ocean Springs also receives many visitors.
