The Black-Americans associate with the African-American identity. It is the cultural contributions to that of the overall United States. It is a distinct part of the American way of life. It has its origin in the historical experience of the people of color, which include the Middle Passage. Their presence has been crucial in an influential way to the American values as a whole. The roots are in the West and Central Africa. You can understand it in the anthropological sense.
The African-American identity is conscious of its origin. It is a blend of the West and Central African cultures. The slavery period greatly restricted their ability to practice their original customs and beliefs. However, the values still survived. Later, there was their modification or blend with those of the Europeans. It has continued to have an impact on the American way of life, as well as the world. Many know it for its elaborate rituals and ceremonies.
The African-American identity is part of the African-American ancestral culture. Many of the societies where it came from, believed that spirits lived in their surrounding nature. Hence, they treated the environment with mindful care. They also claimed that there was a spiritual life after death. The ancestors could mediate between the living and the supreme creator (Dewey, 2003).
The people on Earth would honor and pray to them. However, with the spread of Christianity across North Africa, there was the shift from traditional to religion (Patton, 1998).
